Research Showcase – What Should MCI Clinical Trials Measure?

When we test new treatments or interventions for mild cognitive impairment, what outcomes should actually matter. And are researchers measuring the things that people with MCI and their families consider most important?

This livestream is part of the Dementia Researcher weekly Showcase series. Each week we host a 45 minute online session bringing researchers together to share their work, methods, and ideas.

In this session, Victoria Gabb will present work developing a core outcome set for research involving people with mild cognitive impairment (MCI). The project brought together the priorities of people with MCI, family members, researchers, and healthcare professionals to identify which outcomes should be consistently measured in future clinical trials.

Victoria will discuss how the core outcome set was developed, where different groups agreed or disagreed about what matters, and why greater consistency in outcome measurement could make it easier to compare studies and build stronger evidence.

Victoria is a Senior Research Associate at the University of Bristol. Her research focuses on sleep and memory in MCI and early dementia due to Alzheimer’s disease, Lewy body disease, and Parkinson’s disease. She is also an academic co-lead for patient and public involvement and engagement within the mental health theme at the NIHR Bristol Biomedical Research Centre.
