Scholarship at Risk 1: Academic Freedom vs. Autocratic Repression
November 9 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

The first of three free online Scholarship at Risk sessions from the School of Advanced Study, University of London, looking at what happens to research and researchers when academic freedom comes under pressure.
This opening session sets academic freedom against autocratic repression, asking how scholarship is threatened when governments restrict what can be studied, said and published, and what that means for researchers everywhere. The series continues with sessions on ethical obligations towards research participants (12 November) and the principles of academic freedom (19 November).
It is part of the SAS Research Training programme. The questions it raises about the freedom to research, and the responsibilities that come with it, matter in every discipline, including dementia research.
Booking
All are welcome. The session is free, but you need to book through the SAS event page. It runs online via Zoom, and joining details are emailed to registered attendees 24 hours before it starts. Questions can go to kremena.velinova@sas.ac.uk.
