The University of Houston is recruiting a chemical biologist at Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level, with a focus on drug discovery for cancer, dementia and other major diseases.


The Department of Biology and Biochemistry at the University of Houston invites applications for a tenured or tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. We seek an outstanding scientist conducting innovative research at the interface of biology and chemistry, preferably with a strong interest in drug discovery for cancer or other major diseases.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a relevant field. Candidates for appointment at the Assistant Professor level must demonstrate a strong publication record and the potential to establish an independent, externally funded research program. Candidates applying at the Associate or Full Professor level must have a well-established, externally funded research program and a strong record of independent scholarship and scientific leadership.

The successful candidate will also be expected to: 1) Collaborate with faculty within the department and across the university, particularly through the University of Houston Drug Discovery Institute (DDI); 2) Contribute to the university’s strategic research initiatives in cancer, dementia, and related diseases; and 3) Demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, including classroom teaching, research training, and mentoring.

The Department of Biology and Biochemistry offers state-of-the-art laboratory space in the Science and Engineering Research Center (SERC), access to advanced core facilities, and extensive opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration across the university. Additional collaborative opportunities are available with nearby institutions in the Texas Medical Center, of which the University of Houston is a member.
