  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders (e.g., collaborators);
  • Mentor masters and/or PhD students;
  • Communicate research findings in scientific journals and at conferences

About You

You will have completed a PhD in synthetic biology, molecular biology, biotechnology, biology, or a closely related discipline. You will enjoy bringing impactful research outcomes and working effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary research team. Your collaborative approach to working with others will ensure you perform effectively within a multi-disciplinary environment. If you are an excellent communicator with a proactive nature and are flexible and resilient in your approach, then this is a role you will thrive in and a team you will enjoy working with.

About Us

Our state-of-the-art laboratory at the ARC Centre of Excellence in Synthetic Biology is co-located with the Australian Genome Foundry at Macquarie University in North Ryde, Sydney, Australia, and is equipped with cutting-edge robotic platforms and highly qualified staff. Macquarie University also has a modern and highly sophisticated plant growth facility with controlled environments, including a PC2 glasshouse certified for work with genetically modified plants.

You will join a large group with a vibrant intellectual environment and researchers from around the world aiming to push the boundaries of synthetic biology. Our team is a collegial and diverse community that is inclusive and supportive. You will have ample opportunity to collaborate with world-class researchers. This project is part of an ongoing collaboration with Professor Lars Ittner, Director of the Dementia Research Centre at Macquarie University, to translate research into novel therapies for Alzheimer’s disease.

The Faculty of Science and Engineering is a young and dynamic faculty driven by the spirit of discovery. Here we nurture the next generation of science and technology innovators. From a handful of students on the University’s first day, the Faculty now serves over 8,000 students across all our courses.

The School of Natural Sciences at Macquarie University was established on 1 January 2022 through the amalgamation of the Departments of Biological Sciences, Molecular Sciences, and Earth and Environmental Sciences. The School is the largest in the Faculty of Science and Engineering and is a vibrant community of educators, researchers and students working across a wide range of biological, biomolecular, biomedical, chemical, environmental and geoscience disciplines.

Macquarie is a university engaged with the real and often complex problems and opportunities that define our lives. Since our foundation 59 years ago, we have aspired to be a different type of university.
