VIB KU Leuven seeks a Research Technician to support RNA therapies for Alzheimer’s, using cell models, molecular biology and mouse studies.
About us The VIB-KU Leuven Center for Neuroscience, Belgium, is seeking a research technician to support a drug discovery project focused on RNA based therapies of Alzheimer’s disease. The candidate will work in a team of scientists dedicated to develop antisense oligonucleotides as disease-modifying therapeutics for neurodegenerative diseases. Our strategy is based on an innovative, all-in-human discovery engine platform, deep understanding of disease genetics and pathophysiology, and experienced translational biology.
About the role The research associate will be responsible for conducting both in vitro and in vivo experimental work in our Leuven laboratory, supporting ongoing research projects through a variety of tasks. Daily responsibilities will include drug screening, neuronal cell culture preparation and analysis, a range of molecular biology techniques such as qPCR, RT-qPCR, Western blotting, ELISA, and immunofluorescence as well as mouse handling, monitoring, drug administration, tissue collection and processing. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to receive training and work with advanced technologies, including 3D cell culture systems and xenografted mouse models, in a dynamic and collaborative research environment.
Your profile General & Professional skills
You possess a degree in Biomedical or Biological Sciences (Professional Bachelor/Master/Engineer, or equivalent) Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple experiments independently Strong attention to detail, data integrity and scientific rigor Proactive in adopting new techniques and technologies Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary setting Fluency in written and spoken English Good understanding of early drug discovery and pharmacology concepts are a strong asset In vitro skills
Solid background in cellular and molecular biology, with hands-on experience in wet-lab workflows Advanced cell culture experience, including stem cell maintenance and differentiation Experience with cell-based assays, dose-response studies and plate-based screening in drug discovery contexts Ability to optimize, troubleshoot and ensure robustness of in-vitro assays High level of proficiency in liquid handling, experimental precision and assay reproducibility Strong track record of accurate data generation, documentation and experimental reporting In vivo skills
FELASA B license for animal work is required.Demonstrated experience in animal handling and working with rodent disease modelsFamiliarity with in vivo experimental procedures, ethical guidelines and regulatory complianceAbility to accurately document procedures, observation and outcomes in line with SOPs.
