Assistant or Associate Professor: Alzheimer’s Disease Mechanisms

Temple University’s Alzheimer’s Center seeks a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor to run a funded research programme on Alzheimer’s, brain ageing and related dementias in Philadelphia.

The Alzheimer’s Center at Temple (ACT), part of the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University, is recruiting a scientist to a tenure-track faculty post at Assistant or Associate Professor level. The successful candidate will lead a research programme investigating the mechanisms of, and therapeutic targets for, Alzheimer’s disease (AD), brain ageing, and AD-related dementias (ADRD).

Research areas

ACT is interested in applicants with expertise in one or more of the following:

• Neurobiology of ageing and AD/ADRD, including animal models and/or cell culture systems
• Histopathology, biochemical analysis, biomarkers or translational studies, including work with human and non-human samples
• Omics approaches in brain ageing or dementia

About the Center

ACT is based in the Medical Education and Research Building, a state-of-the-art facility dedicated to basic and clinical research and medical education. The post will complement and build on existing basic and clinical research within the Departments of Neural Sciences (including the Center for Substance Abuse Research and the Center for Neural Development and Repair) and Neurology. Candidate qualifications

• PhD, MD, MD/PhD or equivalent degree
• Academic credentials that would support appointment as an Assistant or Associate Professor
• An established research programme, with independent or pathway-to-independence funding from the NIH and/or private foundations
• A strong academic record in the biology of neurodegenerative disease or neuroscience, with an emphasis on Alzheimer’s and related neurodegenerative diseases
• A consistent track record of publications in high-impact journals

This is a research-intensive position, and the postholder will be expected to devote their primary effort to creative, high-impact studies supported by extramural funding.
