Tell us a little about yourself:
As a Senior Occupational Therapist and Educator, I possess a wealth of clinical and academic experience spanning over 25 years in both the UK and India. My passion lies in working with individuals who have dementia. For the past 13 years, I have been a dementia care mapper and trainer, designing and delivering dementia training for professionals, carers and families of people with dementia. I regularly conduct free training workshops in Indian communities to raise awareness about this condition. My career aspirations include pursuing a PhD in Dementia studies and building a dementia village in India that is fully equipped.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself:
I enjoy travelling around the world and collecting souvenirs, specifically bells, from my journeys. My bell collection spans various countries, including Iceland, Portugal, Prague, the Sumava mountains, the Isle of Wight, Venice, Germany, Montenegro, and India.
Why did you choose to work in dementia?
I have a keen interest in Neurology, Mental Health and older people, all of which intersect with the study of dementia.
What single piece of advice would you give to an early career researcher?
Be open minded and explore different opportunities for research projects.
What book are you reading right now? Would you recommend it?
I am reading ”Achieving Your Doctorate While Working in Higher Education” book by Barbara Howard-Hunt and Merryl Harvey. I would highly recommend this for educators like me who would like to pursue PhD whilst working in academia.
