Call for Papers: Alzheimer’s and Dementia Special Issues

As 2026 approaches, it is a good moment to refocus on scientific communication and publishing. Contributing to Special Issues allows researchers to place their work within focused conversations that reflect current priorities in dementia research.

The Alzheimer’s & Dementia Journal Family, published by the Alzheimer’s Association, currently has seven Special Issues open for submission across its journals. These span clinical practice, behavioural change, social factors, and emerging methods, offering multiple routes for sharing new evidence.

Below is a clear overview of all seven Special Issues, including deadlines and topic areas.

1. Diagnosis, Assessment, and Disease Monitoring

This journal area currently hosts two active Special Issues, both focused on applied and clinical questions.

Special Issue: Waking Up to the Importance of Sleep in Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias

Deadline: 28 February 2026

Topics of interest include:

  • Sleep and circadian disruption and dementia risk
  • Sleep disturbance in neurodegeneration

This issue brings together work examining how sleep influences dementia risk, progression, and underlying mechanisms.

Special Issue: Real World Evidence on Amyloid Targeted Treatments

Deadline: 28 February 2026

Topics of interest include:

  • Real world patient care pathways
  • Clinical implementation, safety, and outcomes of amyloid targeted treatments

This issue focuses on early data from clinical use, highlighting how treatments are being delivered and evaluated outside trial settings.

2. Exploring the Construct of Mild Behavioural Impairment

Deadline: 31 March 2026

Topics of interest include:

  • Epidemiological studies on mild behavioural impairment and conversion to dementia
  • Mechanistic studies
  • Research in diverse populations

This issue aims to refine understanding of mild behavioural impairment and its relevance to diagnosis and intervention.

3. Multilingualism and Literacy: Resilience and Risk Factors

Deadline: 31 March 2026

Topics of interest include:

  • Cognitive and neural mechanisms
  • Risk and resilience across the life course

This issue explores how language and literacy shape vulnerability or protection in dementia.

4. Addressing Dementia Related Stigma: Global Perspectives, Challenges, and Inclusive Solutions

Deadline: 31 March 2026

Topics of interest include:

  • Culturally grounded approaches
  • Innovative strategies for stigma reduction across settings

The focus here is on stigma as a barrier to care, diagnosis, and participation, and on inclusive responses informed by lived experience.

5. Artificial Intelligence in Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementias Research

Deadline: 31 March 2026

Topics of interest include:

  • Artificial intelligence and machine learning
  • Computer vision and data driven approaches

This issue highlights how advanced computational methods are shaping new research directions in dementia.

Together, these seven Special Issues reflect the breadth of current dementia research, from biology and clinical practice to social context and technology. For researchers with relevant findings, they offer timely opportunities to publish work that contributes to focused and visible discussions in the field.
