Evelina Voloviceva – Lipoproteins at the blood-brain barrier interfaces
April 30 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

Dementia Update – Virtual Series #14 – Event by Swiss Network for Dementia Research
Evelina Voloviceva is a PhD student in the group of Dr. Jérôme Robert, where she studies how genetic variation in apolipoprotein E (APOE) shapes the risk of Alzheimer’s disease. Although APOE4 is known as the strongest genetic risk factor, how APOE influences brain function is still not fully understood.
In this webinar, Evelina Voloviceva presents a new perspective on apolipoprotein E (APOE), moving beyond its traditional view as a single lipid transport protein. In the brain, APOE is produced by different cell types including astrocytes, pericytes, and microglia which generate distinct lipoprotein particles. Her research reveals that these particles differ in their protein and lipid composition depending on their cellular origin, and that these differences are linked to key processes in Alzheimer’s disease, such as amyloid pathology and disrupted lipid metabolism.
