Patient and public involvement is a prerequisite for all NIHR-funded research. It can make research more relevant and higher quality, and help build trust in the research and its outcomes. But how do you do it well, especially with groups who are often missed? This free NIHR webinar looks at one study that set out to do exactly that.

The webinar runs online on Wednesday 11 November 2026 at 10:00 UK time.

About the session

Two nurse-led Violence Prevention Teams work in Welsh emergency departments, supporting patients who have been injured in violence. The NIHR-funded EDVIPE study evaluated whether these teams reduce repeat attendance. The study was shaped from design to dissemination by people with lived experience.

Speakers Professor Simon Moore and Megan Hamilton will explain how the study reached underrepresented groups by working with Welsh Women’s Aid, BAWSO and The Wallich, alongside two lay co-investigators. They will cover:

  • How the UK Standards for Public Involvement were applied in practice
  • What worked, and what was harder
  • How public contributors directly changed the research questions and the interpretation of the findings

About the series

This session is part of an NIHR webinar series that draws on the experiences of public contributors and researchers to showcase patient and public involvement in NIHR-funded research, including lessons from when things did not go as well as intended.

If you are planning involvement in your own work, our guides on incorporating EDI in patient and public involvement and practical approaches to patient and public involvement are a good place to start, along with our round-up of patient and public involvement training courses.
