Advanced Dementia Care

Overview

This course is delivered over three months, part-time, it has University of Northampton Logobeen specifically designed to enhance the contemporary knowledge and expertise of leaders and managers in health and social care provision who are providing services and delivering care to people living with dementia (PWD) and their carers.

The aim of the module is to further develop the knowledge of key staff who are working with people who are living with dementia and their carers in order to prepare them to lead in the development and transformation of informal social support networks and formal care pathways.

  • Recent policy developments.
  • Innovations in practice.
  • Contemporary evidence‐base in dementia care.

The module adopts a blended learning approach, with 5 face-to-face study days and additional follow-up study time.

Participants on the module will be introduced to leaders in dementia care and will be encouraged to become active in local and national dementia networks.

Each of the face to face study days of this Module can be taken as a stand-alone study day, for which a Certificate of Attendance will be awarded showing the material covered. Participants will be asked to reflect on their learning using a structured format of Reflection.

Location

The taught elements of your study will take place at our Waterside campus at the University of Northampton and at the Abingdon Library in Northampton.

Entry Requirements

The University’s general entry requirements apply. We will also accept candidates who lack academic qualifications, but have clinical or managerial experience of leading in dementia as Associate students, if they show ability to achieve level 7 study.
