Name:
Love Onwuzuruike
Job Title:
PhD student
Place of work / study:
Department of Physiology, Pharmacology & Neuroscience at University of Bristol
Area of Research:
I study how membrane composition shapes the pharmacology and signalling of serotonin receptors using a combination of experimental approaches and computational modelling.
How is your work funded:
University of Bristol
Tell us a little about yourself:
I am a PhD student studying in the Department of Physiology, Pharmacology & Neuroscience at the University of Bristol. My research bridges neuroscience and computational science, combining functional cell-based assays and molecular dynamics simulations to support structure-based drug discovery for neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative disorders involving serotonin receptors, such as Alzheimer’s Dementia. Alongside my studies, I advocate for greater representation of underrepresented groups in STEM.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself:
I love to travel – my goal is to visit a new country every year!
Why did you choose to work in dementia:
I am passionate about understanding the molecular and cellular mechanisms behind neurodegenerative diseases like Dementia and contributing to treatments that can improve lives in ways that transcend generations – not just in my community, but the world at large.
