Tell us a little about yourself:

I’m a seasoned academic with expertise in Anatomy and Neurobiology. I earned my BSc (Hons) and MSc in Anatomy from the University of Calabar, Nigeria, and later completed my PhD in Anatomy (Neurobiology) at the prestigious University of Nigeria, demonstrating a deep commitment to my field. Throughout my career, I have been an active member of various professional bodies, including the Anatomical Society of Nigeria (ASN), Society for Neuroscientists of Africa (SONA), Neuroscience Society of Nigeria (NSN), International Society for Neurochemistry (ISN), and the International Society to Advance Alzheimer’s Research and Treatment (ISTAART). I currently hold a lecturer position in anatomy, with a research focus on neurotoxicology and neurodegenerative diseases, and am dedicated to the fight against Alzheimer’s through my research and advocacy. I am also an ISTAART Ambassador for the 2024 cohort.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself:

I’m a huge football fan and an avid supporter of FC Barcelona. When I’m not busy with work or catching up with friends, you can find me either on the field playing football or watching an action-packed game. I also love getting lost in action and adventure movies—there’s nothing like a good thrill to unwind!

Why did you choose to work in dementia research?

My fascination with neuroanatomy and the intricate workings of the brain naturally drew me to the field of dementia research. The brain’s complexity is both awe-inspiring and mysterious, and understanding how it changes in conditions like dementia is a challenge I find deeply compelling. Working in dementia allows me to explore these intricate processes, contribute to uncovering the underlying mechanisms, and hopefully, make a difference in the lives of those affected by this devastating condition

What single piece of advice would you give to an early career researcher?

My advice to an early career researcher is to stay curious and resilient. Research is a journey filled with both breakthroughs and setbacks, but it’s your curiosity that will drive innovation and your resilience that will sustain you through challenges. Embrace collaboration, seek mentorship, and never lose sight of the passion that brought you into this field. Success in research comes from persistence and a continuous desire to learn and grow
