Adam Schuller
Name:
Dr Adam Schuller
Job Title:
Postdoc Researcher
Place of work / study:
Colorado State University
Area of Research:
Neurotoxicology
How is your work funded:
NIEHS R35 Awarded to Ronald B. Tjalkens
Tell us a little about yourself:
I am a postdoc in the Tjalkens Lab at Colorado State University, interested in the role of glial activation and its involvement in the prodromal phases of neurodegenerative diseases. To address these questions, our lab applies high-content imaging and AI-based analysis pipelines, as well as -omics approaches, to study cells and tissues from murine models using toxin-based models of disease. I completed my PhD at Boise State University in Environmental Toxicology.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself:
I raise rabbits and enjoy traveling world-wide to judge rabbit shows.
Why did you choose to work in dementia:
Everyone across our population has been affected by dementia in some way. I am particularly interested in the role of environmental exposures in the context of dementia as a way to address ongoing questions related to disease risk and susceptibility. Older adults are among the most vulnerable in our population and why some succumb to these debilitating diseases, and others do not, has consistently intrigued me.
What single piece of of advice would you give to an early career researcher?
As an early career researcher myself I can offer advice to graduate student and undergraduate trainees which is: remain steadfast in your commitment to your research and training and continue to hold yourself and your lab mates to the highest degree of scientific integrity and rigor. Your work has the potential to positively impact the lives of so many and we owe it to these individuals to do the best work that we possibly can.
