I am a member of the Alzheimer’s Society Research Network and Biomedical Grant Advisory Panel Volunteer, I am also a support worker on a project that supports LGBTQ+ communities affected by dementia.
What does your role involve:
- Providing a lived experience perspective that contributes to the Society’s aim to ensure that the research that it funds is meaningful, credible and has the most value to the lives of people affected by dementia
- Providing support to the LGBTQ+ community affected by dementia, and raising awareness of the needs of this community with health and social care providers
Tell us a little about yourself:
I was a caregiver for my mum who lived with Alzheimer’s disease in the final years of her life. This was a transformative experience and set me on a path to working with organisations to ensure that my lived experience could be used for positive purposes. I am passionate about all things related to dementia research and, after completing my MSc Dementia Studies course, hope to pursue my own dreams of becoming a researcher.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself:
I am a keen, but very amateur gymnast and can often be seen upside down practising various gravity-defying skills!
