The Alzheimer’s Association Technology and Dementia Professional Interest Area (PIA) has announced a new collaborative project exploring the role of agentic generative AI in dementia care.
The initiative will examine how emerging AI approaches can support areas including assessment, monitoring, clinical decision support, and real world implementation. The work is expected to lead to a collaborative publication focused on the opportunities and challenges of applying agentic generative AI within dementia care settings.
Members of the International Society to Advance Alzheimer’s Research and Treatment (ISTAART) with relevant expertise are now invited to express interest in contributing to the project.
The PIA is particularly seeking individuals with experience in:
- Agentic or generative artificial intelligence
- Clinical practice, including diagnosis, monitoring, or care planning
- Ethics in AI and healthcare
- Implementation science, particularly real world deployment and adoption
Selected contributors will form a working group to develop the publication, co chaired by Sayeh Bayat and Ian Cleland.
Due to the anticipated level of interest, not all applicants may be included in the initial group. However, the organisers note that additional opportunities to contribute may arise as the work develops.
How to get involved
ISTAART members interested in taking part are invited to complete a short expression of interest survey by 4 May 2026. Submissions will be reviewed by the Technology and Dementia PIA Executive Committee.
This project reflects growing interest in how advanced AI methods can be responsibly integrated into dementia research and care, with a focus on translating innovation into practical benefit.
