Innovating Dementia Care with Alzheimer Society: Launchpad Programme

This livestream hosted by Adam Smith introduces the Alzheimer’s Society Launchpad programme. Presented by Dr Ella Moonan Howard – Launchpad supports people who have ideas that could improve the lives of those affected by dementia and want to explore how to turn them into real products.

The programme is free, runs for six months, and offers mentoring, community support, skills development, and direct contact with people with lived experience. It is suitable for researchers, clinicians, technologists, entrepreneurs, and people with lived experience who are curious about building something that could reach many people.

What We Cover:

– Why innovation has an important role in dementia care and support
– How the Alzheimer Society works with people who want to create solutions
– What Launchpad offers, including mentoring, business skills, and co creation with people living with dementia
– Eligibility and the types of ideas that are a good fit
– Examples of previous innovators and what they achieved
– How to apply and what early progress in the programme looks like

Key Points:

– Launchpad is a six month programme that can be completed alongside full time work or study
– Participants receive one to one mentoring and support from Alzheimer Society and commercial partners
– Co creation sits at the centre of the programme. People living with dementia and carers are involved throughout
– You do not need a complete business plan. You do need a clear problem and a willingness to test ideas
– Solutions can be physical products, digital tools, or services that can be delivered at scale
– Applications are welcome from across research fields, clinical practice, social care, arts, design, and lived experience
