Place of work / study:

Brainkind

Area of Research:

I provide psychological support to patients with acquired and traumatic brain injuries. I have performed research about the neuropsychological outcomes of Deep Brain Stimulation for Parkinson’s Disease.

How is your work funded:

All of my research experience has been during my time in university.

Tell us a little about yourself:

I hold a BSc (Hons) in Neuroscience from the University of Manchester, where my research evaluated folic acid awareness among ethnic minority populations. I subsequently completed an MSc in Applied Neuropsychology at the University of Bristol, undertaking a regional audit on the neuropsychological outcomes of Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) in Parkinson’s disease. Building on this academic foundation, I have gained extensive clinical experience across diverse brain injury settings and currently serve as an Assistant Psychologist within a neurobehavioural service at Brainkind. Moving forward, my ambition is to be a successful candidate for the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology and qualify as a Clinical Neuropsychologist.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself:

I can speak, read, and write 5 languages! (English, Hindi, Punjabi, Cantonese, and Mandarin)

Why did you choose to work in dementia?

Memory loss is a prominent feature of brain injuries, and in some cases, it ultimately leads to dementia. As an aspiring neuropsychologist, I hope to deepen my understanding of how focal brain pathology transitions into broader neurodegenerative processes.

What single piece of advise would you give to an early-career researcher?

Capitalize on every available opportunity to present, publish, and collaborate. Networking and public engagement in the early stages not only build your professional visibility but also expose you to diverse perspectives that will shape your long-term research trajectory.

What book are you reading right now? Would you recommend it?

I am reading ‘As Long as the Lemon Trees Grow’ by Zoulfa Katouh. It is a novel set during the Syrian Revolution in Homs, Syria. The novel acts as a love letter to Syria. Its food, architecture, history, and people remind readers of what is lost when home becomes unsafe. Rather than reducing the Syrian revolution to statistics or news headlines, the book paints an intimate picture of daily life, love, loss, and survival from a Syrian perspective.

Favourite film of all time?

My all time favourite move is Crazy Rich Asians.

Favourite ways to unplug and unwind?

Painting! It helps me switch my mind off from the stresses of life and focus on the intricacies of art. It’s also a great way to practice mindfulness.

What’s your favourite vacation spot?

Hong Kong.

Do you collect anything?

I collect books and have a big collection in my room!
