Tell us a little about yourself:
I am a final year PhD student based at the Centre for Public Health, Queen’s University Belfast. My PhD aims to define cognitive resilience in two longitudinal cohorts, and identify predictors of cognitive resilience using cognitive tests, fluid biomarkers and genetics data. With the advent of blood-based biomarkers for Alzheimer’s Disease, it is hoped that this work will help inform patients’ cognitive trajectories. I completed my BSc in Biomedical Science at Queen’s University Belfast, where I undertook my first research project “EEG indices of mild cognitive impairment and dementia in Parkinson’s Disease”. I then worked as a Clinical Conduct Technician at a clinical trials company, before starting my PhD in 2023.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself:
I play American Flag Football.
Why did you choose to work in dementia?
Dementia affects millions across the globe. Whilst there is so much we now know about dementia, there is so much yet to be found out. Recent advances in current research are particularly motivating in working towards the prevention and management of the syndrome. I am strongly motivated by all those affected, and I am passionate in helping to contribute to research in this field, to help reduce the numbers of those affected in the years to come.
