Place of work / study:

Area of Research:

Dementia care in care homes, primarily medication use

Tell us a little about yourself:

I have a psychology background, and have worked in dementia care and research since graduating. I’ve worked on the MARQUE project for nearly 4 years and started my part-time PhD 3.5 years ago – planning to submit my thesis in June.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself:

I can’t wink.

Why did you choose to work in dementia?

By chance I got a job in an NHS dementia unit once I graduated, and loved working with this group. Although I have had two relatives with dementia, it is actually my grandmother who did not have dementia who continues to inspire me. Even though she was in her 90s she felt hugely guilty about not being able to care for her sister (who had dementia) at home. In the future I’d like care homes to have a more positive reputation and not be seen as somewhere that people dread to live.
