University of the West of Scotland

Area of research?

Alzheimer Scotland

Tell us a little about yourself:

In 2025 I will be completing my PhD at the Alzheimer Scotland Centre for Policy and Practice (ASCPP; part of the University of the West of Scotland). Though of course challenging, I have loved my time as a student and am looking forward to continuing to work in research and being able make a positive impact on the world through this.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself:

I love making stuff but don’t have any particular talent for it… Crochet relaxes me and it’s very satisfying transforming a ball of wool into something completely different!

Why did you choose to work in dementia research?

I think it chose me… And I am very grateful it did! 🙂 I have been able to work with and meet the most amazing people – and given how dementia affects so many of us in different ways, it is a great privilege to have a small part in ensuring that those living with dementia can continue doing what they like and love for as long as possible.

What single piece of advice would you give to an early career researcher?

People before papers.

What book are you reading right now? Would you recommend it?

I am reading “The Truth“, one of the Discworld novels. It’s my first one!

Favourite film of all time?

Wolf Creek. And also Where the Heart Is.

Favourite ways to unplug and unwind?

Luxury bath, reality TV, cola beverage when I’ve finished work on a Friday!
