This special ‘Midday Lecture’ webinar from Dementia Researcher was recorded on the 21st May 2021 and delivered to support Dementia Action Week – hosted by Dr Emily Oliver, Lead Dementia Nurse for Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust.
Aimed at all healthcare professionals this webinar features a number of researchers whose work is focussed on improving the care that people living with dementia receive whilst visiting or staying in an NHS hospital. Speakers are:
Dr Rachael Kelley (01:46), Research Fellow, Centre for Dementia Research, Leeds Beckett University discussing ‘Involving families in the general hospital care of people living with dementia: how well are we doing?’ This talk will focus on ethnographic research into the involvement of families of people living with dementia in general hospitals. It will also draw on other research and experiences to explore how families are being involved in care and what might need to change to optimise family involvement practices.
Annabelle Long (16:43) PhD Student, Research Assistant and Physiotherapist, University of Nottingham discussing ‘Exercise and Dementia and interventions on a chair-based exercise’ Dr Pippa Collins, Physiotherapist & Advanced Clinical Practitioner, working and researching with people with cognitive and physical frailty, will present work from her PhD on improving frailty care pathways.
Dr Rebecca O’Brien, (29:40), Senior Research Fellow /Programme Manager PrAISED Programme, University of Nottingham, discussing, ‘When people living with dementia say ‘no’: Negotiating refusal in the acute hospital setting’
Dr Pippa Collins (43.30), Physiotherapist & Advanced Clinical Practitioner, working and researching with people with cognitive and physical frailty, will present work from her PhD on improving frailty care pathways.
Candace Imison (60:00), Associate Director Evidence & Dissemination, NIHR Centre for Engagement & Dissemination discussing ‘The role of the NIHR Centre for Engagement and Dissemination, in supporting NHS services’
